Body scrubs - The best for every budget

So Christmas is over which means I begin my long and tedious wait for the sun to reappear! I am such a different person when the sky is clear and blue and you can feel the fresh air on your skin, I get a spring in my step and adopt a much more positive outlook on life - I'm convinced I should have been born in a hot
country! Unfortunately I wasn't, I was born in what sometimes feels like the dampest, grayest corner of England which means for most of the year I am covered from head to toe in multiple layers top off with wellies and a goose down jacket! This can result in rather neglected skin which leads me onto the subject of this post - exfoliation!
You can slap on as much moisturiser as you like but unless you regularly exfoliate your skin it will never look and feel its best. Scrubbing your skin not only removes the dry, dead skin cells but it helps to aid cell renewal as well as stimulating blood flow to the surface of the skin, which allows your moisturiser to be more effective. I have chosen my three favourite body exfoliaters with an option for every budget.

First up is the most affordable option, Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub. This contains smashed brown sugar, sweet lime, almond oil and macadamia grains which is the perfect combination to buff away dead skin cells while leaving the skins soft and silky when you get out of the shower. The smell is quite strong and sweet like its other Soap and Glory counterparts but I like the sharpness of the lime in it. This 300 ml tub costs £8 and will last a good while as it has a thick consistency so you don't need to use much.  You can buy Soap & Glory products from Boots.

Next is my personal favourite of the three, Rituals Himalaya Wisdom Holy Basil & Organic Fresh Mint Salt Scrub.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of this scrub. It's so uplifting and refreshing but calming at the same time, I literally could have a sniff every time I go into my bathroom! The liquid element of this scrub is much lighter than the Soap & Glory but still leaves a fine covering of oil on your skin so it feels really moisturised. The salt is made from ancient Himalayan crystal salt that is said to have harmonising properties for inner balance and vitality. It feels like a really luxurious product to use but i think the price for the amount of product you get is really reasonable. A tub of this will last a good few months if used 2-3 a week.
This scrub costs £14.50 and is available here.

My final option is a real splurge at £30 but with that price tag comes pure indulgence at its best. This is one of those products to be savored for the times when you run a bath not just to clean yourself but to have a moment for yourself at the end of a long day light a scented candle, apply a face mask and unwind with a bit of pampering. Or if you have a special occasion coming up that you want your skin to be in tip top condition for, i used this a lot in the run up to my wedding.
Clarins Toning Body Polisher contains a cocktail of essential oils including rosemary, rosewood and mint that smells like an expensive spa. The consistency is thick and luxurious and gives the skin a real treat while the salt and sugar crystals gently buff away dry cells. The result is radiant, glowing skin that smells amazing and feels even better - this one is my husband's favourite for that reason! Clarins is available in most department stores and larger Boots stores.

I'd love to know if you have used any of these or if you have any other suggestion that would sit well in this little line up.

  6. Really really enjoyed this post! I was sold after I read each one- like "right, i'm getting the soap and glory"... then the Rituals... then the Clarins! Still can't decide which one to get (I currently don't have a scrub at all atm) maybe the Rituals as you said it was your favourite, but I love the smell of Soap and Glory (and use their shower gel) and the Clarins one just sounded so luxurious!
Either way, great post, made me want to buy all 3 haha!
