Lush Yuzu & Cocoa Bubble Bar Review

The jury is still out on Lush for me, I used to find the smell in the shops really overpowering and off putting, and the odd time I ventured in there I felt like I was ambushed by the sales assistants! Just before Christmas I was asked numerous times by three different sales assistants if I needed help and I ended
up walking out because it was just annoying. I'm all for good customer service but I thought that was just overkill.
Anyway, my sister in law loves Lush and her enthusiasm always manages to stir up some interest in me so I decided to give it another go and just be more assertive with the staff.
I'm happy to say this tactic worked and a polite but firm 'no i'm ok thanks' when they asked if I wanted help seemed to do the trick and I had a browse in peace. I was going to go for a bath bomb but at the last minute I decided to try this bubble bar because who doesn't love a bubbly bath?! I think next time I'll get both for a really indulgent experience but I was still pleasantly surprised with this.

The sales assistant told me to break it up and use it more than once so being impatient as usual I had broken it in half and chucked half of it in the bath water before I even thought about photographing it (oops!) so please imagine the picture below but twice the size, in the shape of a macaroon!

It has a slightly chalky, tacky, crumbly texture and you just break it up in your fingers and drop under running water. As you can see it did produce plenty of bubbles and it also filled the bathroom with a gorgeous smell. It was a warm coconut smell with a slight fruitiness that managed to be very relaxing and quite uplifting at the same time. This is for those of us who are not keen on the typical sweet overpowering 'Lush' smell!
It left my skin feeling very silky and lightly fragranced after the bath. The thing that always keeps me from writing Lush off is the fact that as a brand they have such a conscience - they refuse to work with any company that tests on animals, and despite what the garish colours and overpowering smells would suggest, their products are made largely from fresh natural ingredients and essential oils as apposed to synthetic fragrances and colourants. This bubbleroon is no exception, containing coconut and bergamot oil and shea butter. They still use what they call 'safe synthetics' in their products, and I noticed sodium laurel sulfate on the ingredient list when I had a quick browse so they are definitely not all natural by any means, but I think they are a good half way house between the large cosmetics companies, who don't flinch at piling their products full of questionable ingredients, and the small natural organic brands.

I enjoyed using this product and would probably buy it again next time I have a browse in Lush, unless something else catches my eye! What would you recommend from Lush?

  2. I know what you mean about the smell of the shop! I love LUSH but even I find it difficult to shop in there sometimes! Great review, haven't tried this one before but it sounds lovely. I'd recommend their Candy Cane bubble bar but it does smell super sweet! :) x

  3. Ah I love coconut! It's my favourite smell. The bubble bars are amazing from Lush but you should try one of the bath ballistics (bath bombs) if you haven't already, they're fab. I found your blog after today's bloggers chat on Twitter :) @TeenAwake
