Benefit Fakeup First Impressions

I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the launch of the brand new concealer ‘Fakeup’ from Benefit on Tuesday night in Newcastle. It was a fantastic event and a great night was had by all. It was really nice to finally put some faces and names to blogs that I read, and to meet some new people.

Benefit Fakeup* is a stick concealer designed to hydrate the eye area while concealing dark circles in order to prevent the dreaded creasing which is literally something that could make me cry when I look in the mirror! Made up of a core of concealer surrounded by a hydrating ring of vitamin E and apple seed extract, the two elements blend together on application to give moisturising coverage to the eye area.

I wasn’t sure what i would think of this product before i got to have a play with it and try it out on my skin as i have today.  I thought the outer ring of moisturiser would make the product slip on my skin and therefore whatever coverage it gave wouldn’t last. I also worried that it would look quite greasy because, in order to get the coverage from the core of concealer, i thought i would need to apply quite a lot.

I am more than happy to say that neither of these concerns were realised when I finally got my hands on the product and I am extremely impressed with it after a day’s wear (especially as I indulged in a couple of glasses of bubbly at the launch and didn’t get home until nearly midnight so it was no mean feat to cover my circles this morning!)

On application the product glides across the skin but doesn’t feel or look at all greasy, just very silky and hydrating. It actually gives the skin an almost luminous finish similar to the much coveted YSL Touche Eclat and really reflects the light which means it covers dark circles brilliantly.

I've probably looked in the mirror much more today than I normally would, examining my under eye area for any sign of movement and I can honestly say, not only has it not creased but, it has stayed put all day without any touch ups and is only now starting to look like it needs to be reapplied (7 hours later)! This is a keeper!

I really love the packaging too, this is what swings it for me over Benefits much loved Erase Paste. I'm really not a fan of pots that require you to stick your fingers in so the wind up tube is an immediate hit and it feels nicely heavy and solid as you would want form a high-end makeup product.

Available in the UK from 30th March, Fakeup will retail at £18.50 so the price point is in keeping with other big-selling high end concealers such as Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer and MAC Studio Finish. It comes in 3 shades as seen below, i am currently 01 Light but will be 02 Medium when i have a bit of colour in the Summer. My first impressions of this product are great and i am looking forward to using and seeing how it fairs when the weather warms up a bit!
