Disappointing products #1

This is the first post i have done about products that haven't made the cut. Generally i like to try and be positive and i really enjoy writing about products that have genuinely impressed me and letting other people know how good they are, but i also like to be honest and so I'm going to share my thoughts on a few things that, for me, weren't great.

La Roche-Posey Rosaliac UV Legere SPF15 £16.50
I've had this moisturiser for quite a while now but i thought i'd feature it in this post because even though i have used most of it, it just doesn't do what i wanted it to do which is reduce redness. Now i have to say that this could be because the redness i have in my cheeks seems to be something i inherited rather than sensitivity as both of my brothers have it, but even then i really wasn't too keen on this product as a moisturiser, it left my skin feeling a bit greasy and i didn't find it to be particularly hydrating. It was disappointing as other products from this brand are fantastic, but i just didn't get on with this one.

Maybelline 14 hour Superstay Lipstick £6.99
I've talked about my love for high end products before (here) but in my quest to fall in love with high street brands i picked up a few bits from Maybelline a couple of weeks ago. I had high hopes for this lipstick because the shade is beautiful, its like a lipstick version of the ever popular Nars blush Orgasm. Unfortunately it just didn't live up to the promise as the formula is soo drying! It seems in order to last the 14 hours its name suggests, the formula has been designed to weld onto your lips and it just feels so uncomfortable that i doubt i will be getting much wear from it which is a real shame.

TIGI Bed Head Dumb Blonde Range £9-11
I'll start by saying i really like TIGI as a brand and some of their styling and finishing products are great; the Headrush Shine Spray is something i always have in my stash of hair products. Unfortunately the same can't be said of the shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioning treatment from the Dumb Blonde range. They left such a sticky horrible residue in my hair that it took two or three washes to get it back to normal! I didn't like the smell of the products and for the price i really don't think they performed as you would expect.

Bliss The Youth As We Know It anti-ageing moisture cream £56.20
This is probably the biggest disappointment sheerly due to the price tag! For that amount of money i expect to be really wowed by a moisturiser but this was very disappointing. On first impressions i thought it was very similar to Bobbi Brown's Vitamin Enriched Face Base which i love. It has the same consistency and the same fruity smell, however my skin reacted really badly to it and it actually stung a little bit - not what you want from a high end product! I also found it to be quite greasy on the skin unlike the Vitamin Enriched Face Base which is very velvety. I persevered with this for quite a while to see if my skin adjusted to it but it didn't and i got sick of my skin feeling uncomfortable after i used it.

Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Backcomb in a bottle £5.61 (full size)
I remember reading a long time ago a review that Fleur from Fleur De Force wrote about this and her before and after pictures looked great so i eventually picked it up to give it a try. Unfortunately i didn't manage to achieve the same effect as in my hair this product just seems sticky and it weighs my hair down rather than giving it volume. It might just be my hair type but after using other volumising products recently that i have been really impressed with (review to come soon!) this has been cast aside and i doubt i will even finish the bottle but at least i just got the small size!

So that's it for this instalment of disappointing products, sorry if this comes across as a very negative post but i just wanted to be honest and i hope it was helpful to some of you. I've got quite a few really exciting posts lined up this week so the positive vibes will be back very soon!

Have any of you had any different experiences with these products? I would love to know! Thanks for reading x

  1. Oh no.. I've bought a few of the Maybelline Lipsticks recently, but I've not tried them yet. I have high hopes for them, I hope they don't feel so drying on me. xx

  2. Completely with you on the back comb in a bottle front. I've used twice now and it makes my hair matted as sticky.
Not tried the other products thighs.
    Enjoyed your post

  3. I nearly bought the Umberto Giannini Backcombe in a Bottle the other day! I'm glad I didn't now though :) x

  4. I've had my eye on Backcomb in a Bottle for awhile, but unsure now... Look forward to the other volumising product reviews!xx

I was looking at buying the bed head shampoo, so glad i didn't! That sucks about how much you spent on the moisture cream :(

  6. I haven't tried any of these but I love reading reviews that aren't always postive, they're often more helpful.

  7. It's bad.. But I really like these types of posts! I'm such a sucker for a recommendation on a blog that I trust someones judgement far more when there's stuff they don't like too. Especially in the beauty department. (It's really not my area of expertise!) I also have fine 'but lots of it' hair.. Can't wait to read about the volumising products you're using!

  8. Thats a very nice post! We need to know not only about good product but as well as worst ones!
Wanna follow each other on gfc and bloglovin? Let me know!
