A little update & May Favourites!

Hello ladies. Some of you may have noticed i've been a bit absent from the blogging world for the last few weeks. There are a few reasons for this, the main ones being that Jim has been working really hard to finish the final year of his degree with exams to prepare for and his dissertation and other assignments to hand in. It
was difficult to see him under so much pressure and be able to do so little to help but i think even just taking over all of the shopping/cooking/cleaning so he could concentrate on the task at hand helped and he got there in the end and has now secured himself a job which is pretty amazing considering he hasn't even graduated yet - i'm a very proud wife!

In the middle of that super stressful and busy period we also received some bad news. We were told that we are not going to be able to live in our house any more so in the midst of one of the most difficult times we've gone through we had to start house hunting, and those of you who rent and have pets will know that finding somewhere suitable is much easier said than done. With all of this to contend with i had to put my blog on the back burner and prioritise 'life stuff' instead but we are getting there and i am sitting down with my laptop this afternoon to tell you about the things i have been loving throughout May, i know this is a little bit late but i hope none of you will mind too much - better late than never?!

First up is these beauts from Sinful Colors, i've got Daredevil 1104 and Folly 395 which i picked up on a recent browse in Boots. I couldn't resist for £1.99 and thought the colours were so pretty for spring/summer. I figured that if they were rubbish it was no great loss because they were so cheap but i can tell you i was SO pleasantly surprised, they apply really nicely and you can even get away with one coat because they give a fully opaque coverage with one application. They're really big bottles too so i will be interested to see how they are after a few uses and if they dry out or go gloopy. If you haven't tried a polish from Sinful Colors i urge you to check them out, they come in a really good variety of colours too.

Keeping with the nail theme, i have to mention one of my all time favourite products Seche Vite. This jhust takes all of the hassle and waiting around that comes with painting your nails and because i'm quite impatient i can't paint my nails without this now, its also gives a great glossy finish and really reduces how much they chip, i reviewed this in more depth here.
In terms of make up i've been reaching for my L'Oreal Colour Riche lipstick in 370 a lot over the last few weeks, its a bright blue-toned pink that gives a lovely creamy pop of colour that really brightens up any make up look.

I have been really fickle with mascaras of late but that changed when the Dior Diorshow Iconic mascara fell into my grubby mitts! I've been reaching for this everyday and loving it. It gives my lashes good volume and builds them up without being clumpy, and it lasts well but isn't a nightmare to remove (Benefit They're real anyone?!)
Next up is Piz Buin Allergy Face Cream SPF30. I have been absolutely loving the return of the sun recently! I feel like a different person when the sun shines and the sky is blue, i love to be outside and i definitely have a bit more of a spring in my step when the smell of suncream is in the air. This one is fab because its not greasy and is really gentle of the skin. I occasionally suffer from prickly heat but if i stick to the allergy range from Piz Buin it really helps with it, i use the aftersun as well and its lovely!
Lastly, the sun has brought my summer wardrobe out of hibernation which inevitably means showing a bit more skin so i'm really enjoying using The Body Shop Mango Whip Body Lotion every day to keep my skin looking healthy. Its nice and light but still very moisturising and it smells incredible!

I have some other more random favourites i wanted to tell you about this month. Firstly is my subscription to National Geographic Traveller magazine that my in-laws gave me for my birthday. I love travelling and this is the next best thing for me - when im stuck in England i love reading about all the exotic destinations around the world, its a little bit of escapism!
Also in the 'dreaming of sunnier climes' vein are the AA Pocket Guides and i think these are great! They have one for most holiday destinations and they are so handy to have with you, they're small enough to carry around in a small bag, they have maps of the area, a top-ten places to see which is brilliant if you like to get out and explore a little bit, and then a more detailed section where you can read a little bit more about resorts and areas of interest. They also have a section at the front with useful information about the area and things to know before you go. I usually buy one of these when i'm planning a holiday and they are just as useful before you go away as they are to have with you. They're definitely not a detailed guide so if you prefer something a bit meatier like the rough guides or the lonely planet travel guides these will not be for you but i find they are enough for a week in a new area and they have pictures in them which i love because a picture tells a thousand words!

  4. You guys will be able to get through this tough time by sticking together like you are doing. All the pressure your hubby is under right now will all be worth it when he graduates in the summer and gets a fab job!

    Loved the post!
I really need to try out those nail polishes.

Good luck with the house hunting.

  6. Oh dear, sounds like a stressful time indeed! That's amazing that your hubby has got a job sorted already, and fingers crossed your new pad will be even nicer than where you are now :)
We are moving back to the UK in a matter of weeks now, so it's much the same for us - need to find somewhere to rent asap so we don't have to cram into my parents' place for more than the minimum! We are also looking to buy a place next year, and seeing as we've been abroad all this time we'll be starting from scratch - no furniture, no nothing! Something tells me it's going to be an expensive move!
I love reading travel magazines too, it's nice to dream about future trips.
Hope you're well besides all the stressing out!
