Benefit Rockateur Review

I have to say that Benefit are one of those brands that I often overlook; When it comes to high end make up I am a fan of the elegant, sophisticated packaging that Chanel, YSL etc. do so well and I find myself put off by the cheap-looking, gaudy packaging of some of Benefits products. Don’t get me wrong, the occasional
launch catches my eye and there are a few Benefit products I really love and will repurchase over and over again.
With that being said when an email landed in my inbox announcing the latest addition to the box blushes that Benefit are so famous for I was so intrigued I took myself straight down to my local Benefit counter.

Benefit Rockateur
If you are a makeup enthusiast you may have been aware of the hype surrounding a certain limited edition blusher this summer from Estee Lauder. The Gelee blush in ‘Tease’ was a bit of a sensation amongst beauty bloggers and YouTubers.  If you’ve read my blog for a while you may remember I featured it in a wish list post here. Due to the internet storm around this product it quickly sold out and unfortunately I missed the boat, something that has bothered me all summer!
‘Why has she veered off on an Estee Lauder tangent?’ you may be asking yourself. Well, one look at the Rockatuer blush brought memories of this much coveted product flooding back as it seemed to bare more than a passing resemblance.

Nestled inside the quite frankly hideous (imo) snakeskin and lace designed cardboard box is the most stunning rose gold blush with a hint of shimmer. On first glance the shimmer looks quite full on but it is actually just a spray over to make the design look pretty which disappears with one swirl of a brush, when applied the blush has a subtle shimmer, enough to brighten the complexion, but it is not at all glittery. I wouldn't consider this a dupe for ‘Tease’; it’s more of a natural rose shade as opposed to candyfloss pink, but in my opinion it makes it that bit more wearable and, thanks to the new formula from Benefit, it has the same silky soft texture as the gelee which blends like a dream unlike some Benefit box blushes which, dare I say it, I find can be slightly chalky…
Wearing Rockateur (with no highlighter)
Apart from the massive fail in terms of the packaging the other issue I have with this product is the size. It costs the standard £23.50 as with all the other box blushers, however instead of the usual 8g of product you are only getting 5g with this. Apparently it has something to do with the new formula and making the product shallower to prevent it from smashing easily which is fine but I personally think it should be priced accordingly – less product should equal less money, no?

Despite the aforementioned gripes, it’s safe to say Rockateur has slotted in right at the top of the list called ‘my favourite blushers from Benefit’ and I know I will be getting loads of wear out of this; I might just store it at the back of a drawer rather than On The Dressing Table!

  8. This does look gorgeous, and looks great on you. Totally agree though, less product should mean less money, not fair to charge the same price. And hate the packaging, I would still buy this though, or ask for it as a present :) Lovely review.

  9. Your so right the packaging ruins a beautiful blush! It looks gorgeous on you. I'm not sure I could justify spending that much on something in a tacky box designed by a ten year old trying to be a 'rock chick'. Do you recon it would be easy to depot or cover the box in wrapping paper or something?x
