October Favourites

I swear these months are speeding up as i approach the big scary birthday!! Because the nights have been drawing in, especially with the clocks going back, my first favourite has to be the Neal & Wolf scented candle. I have been burning this most evenings and the scent is just perfect for this time of year. Its a warming, musky scent that makes me feel so relaxed, I reviewed it in full here if you would like to read more about it. Mine is getting worryingly low but i will 100% repurchase another before the year is out!

Next up is the one skincare product i can't speak highly enough of: The Aurelia Miracle Cleanser is just gorgeous. Its been keeping my skin soft and hydrated despite the change in temperature and it removes makeup really well so i haven't been using anything else. Even using it twice a day and double cleansing i still have loads left so i think its going to work out as great value for money as well as being a lovely product. I raved about this is more detail along with some other products from the line here earlier this week.

The arrival of the colder weather also signals changes in the day to day makeup with deep berry-toned lips and soft navy and brown smoky eyes coming into play. I tend to tone down other aspects of my makeup when i go for a bold lip and/or a smoky eye so i have been reaching for my Nars Doucuer Blush a lot over the last month. This shade is perfect for sculpting cheekbones without adding too much of a flush. It just emphasises the natural shadows on your face and adds a touch of colour and dimension without being obvious. Its comparable to MAC Harmony, another favourite for contouring, but Douceur is slightly cooler. I also opt for a more natural brow if im wearing darker, more autumnal shades on my eyes and lips, otherwise i think you can look a bit too 'made up' especially during the day so i've just been using a touch of Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara in Medium Brown to keep my brows in place. I love this product because it just gives a hint of colour to define the brows and keeps them in place all day without feeling crispy or looking too gelled into place and its so affordable too.

Another affordable product that has not left my makeup bag this month is the Bourjois Java Rice Powder which i have talked about more here. I can't rave about this product enough! I think without the slightly overpowering rose scent this could easily be mistaken for a high end product with a price tag double what it costs. I have been dusting this all over my face in place of a setting powder and it really lifts the skin, especially when wearing a high coverage foundation. If you prefer a more matte finish to the skin you can just use it along cheek bones and under the brow for a very subtle highlight.

Lastly is the Leighton Denny Quatro Nail File and Buffer which i talked about in my Manicure routine post. I have tried loads of these four sided file/buffers but none have wowed me until this. Leighton Denny is just a genius when it comes to Nail products: i haven't tried anything from him that a) i didn't like and b) i didn't think was worth the money. This may be a little more pricey than some you can pick up but it will last much longer and it is so effective - my nails have never been so shiny! I also find that my nail varnish applies much more smoothly and seems to chip less after buffing my nails, and if you have yellow staining it can really help to reduce that.
